My father was part owner of a pool hall in Milwaukee in the mid 1960s. They had 20 Kaye tables; nineteen pocket billiards and one billiard table.
There were five tables in each of these colors – red, blue, green and orange on the sides. These were the 4.5′ by 9′ oversize Ambassador model.
I recall the tables had three 1.5″ slate sections which weighed around 100# each (maybe more). It took two people to move them.
I cleaned the place every Sunday and got to play afterwards. I prefer these to any other table. The other pool halls in the city all had Brunswick tables.
I still know where one or two of these tables are, and when they become available, I’m going to get one.
Welcome thats very cool. Those tables are family. Do you have any photos from back in the day we would love to see them!
Correction: the tables were not Ambassadors – they were Deluxe Continentals. They did not have coin mechanisms, as the people were charged for play by the minute. The table’s felt matched the color of the sides. It had to be taken apart by a special tool with a hexagon end.
