<p style=”text-align: left;”>Hey there, I just found a Silver Shadow in the basement of my parents’ house and would like to restore this one. especially the border needs repairs and new paint.
could anybody possibly give me a hint how I can loosen the frame of the table? Presumably the marks on the frame with the “K” logo are screw heads, right? How is it possible to loosen them without damaging them?</p>
Thanks a lot for your 20210105_180737help!

Jan, the screws are under the diamonds. These are made of rubber and you can carefully pry them out with a pointed thorn or a small screwdriver. Often, however, they are already in a very bad condition because they have already been taken out several times because of the change of the cloth. Unfortunately, very few pay attention and damage them most of the time. Not infrequently they are completely missing. After removing the screws, it is possible to lift down the entire frame. At the corners, the wood is connected with metal wedges. That can break if you don’t pay attention. The wedges can be knocked out with a blunt thorn if you want to completely disassemble the frame.

If you want to remove the rails, each rail has three screws which are loosened from the outside.

The photos are of an Apollo, the system is the same.

Thank you Valero, that helps a lot!

But at the moment I have more fear of destroying the table while disassembling it instead of motivation for restoring it 🙂 maybe i shouldjust leave itlike it is.

Jan, you don’t have to be afraid that you’re going to break something. These tables are all very simple and logically constructed. If you don’t have two left hands, it won’t be a problem for you.

    Thanks Valero, I will do!

Are there any replacement diamonds of the right size available online? I ampretty sure not to get them out without breaking some.

Jan, these are made of rubber. I had already thought of making moulds and pouring new ones with rubber. But I find the original diamond quite horrible. Since these parts are very easy to change and no changes are necessary at the table, I have considered an alternative that visually enhances the table and has been well received by many other table owners.

    Regards, Valero
