Tagged: pool table weight moving refelt
I have the chance to buy an Irving Kaye Eldorado Mark V. I am not sure what year it is — if it helps, you can see pictures (at least for now) at https://philadelphia.craigslist.org/spo/d/pipersville-vintage-1960s-irving-kaye/7485980991.html (it is a craigslist post so it will disappear at some point).
Don’t laugh (and don’t cry) I need to move it on top of my car. I’m sure I can do it, I’ve moved plenty of big things on top of my car including things like a sofa bed.
I will move the slates separately, and will remove everything from the main frame / bed that I can (rails / cushions, legs, coin drawer, and anything else I can remove).
My main question is how much will that main frame / bed weigh (ideally the weight with all removable parts removed, but if I know the weight with those parts attached, that will give me an idea.
Two more questions for extra credit 😉
* How much do the slates weigh? (I assume all three are just about the same size — certainly the two ends, perhaps the center slate is slightly larger or smaller??)
* I’ve seen the post in the forum about replacing the felt (with the suggestion to make some things out of 2x4s to hold the slate up while the felt is glued to the underside. It sounds (to me) like those instructions are aimed at a one piece slate and I’m wondering how that works for a 3 piece slate. (I mean, if you lift the slate at one end, it will presumably “fold” at the boundary between slates, and, likewise when you lower it back into place, presumably damaging the new felt.
Thanks for any help you can offer.
