    Hello,

I have owned a Deluxe Leader model for over 30 years.  I purchased it from a family that was moving.  It’s intact (coin mechanism, keys, etc) and playable, though I have not used it much.  The cloth is pretty worn, with a few tears, and the rails are in need of replacement.  I’m thinking about refurbishing the table now that I am moving into a new home with room to make better use of it.  Is anyone familiar with this model?  There seems to be little information available.  I’d appreciate any insight you can offer as to the desirability of the Deluxe Leader and potential value in full playing condition.

    Thanks,

    Dave

This is the only picture I have right now.  Unfortunately it’s from the end opposite the coin mechanism/ball return.  IMG_2601The table is disassembled and waiting to be moved.

    Hi Dave

The many models that Irving Kaye had offered were not visually similar, but several points of the technical structure were retained unchanged for a long time. Look here:

How to Refelt Your Pool Table

You can also take the complete frame with the rails down by taking the diamonds out of the rails and removing the screws underneath. This is the case with most Irving Kaye tables, and I suspect your table will be no different.

    Regards, Valero

    Valero,

Thanks for the info.  This one is pretty easy to disassemble.  You can see the three screw holes along the end rail that secure the cushion.  There are three for each cushion that are screwed into the back of the cushion rails.  Once the cushions are removed the slate comes right out.  It’s easiest to tip the cabinet on it’s side to remove the slate, as the sides are slanted just enough for the cabinet to rest at a stable angle.  Having the slate out a few times for moving the table has given me a good look at the interior, which is in very good condition.  If nothing else, it’s a very solid and stable design.  As for playability, the deep, narrow pockets make it a great practice table for league play.  There is little margin for error.

    Dave
